BIO

Charles Raymond "Ray" Woolford was recruited from the Gaza Football Club in 1964. He had been selected in the South Australian squad that played in the Australian Amateur Football Championships held at the Adelaide Oval earlier that year.

A strong, hard-working ruckman, he was an excellent mark and did a lot of his best work when resting in either the forward or back pocket. He won the most improved player award in 1966.

In 1969 he played in Norwood's 25 point win over Port Adelaide in the Reserves Grand Final.

Unfortunately in 1971, after Norwood had already lost ruckmen Greg Kuchel and Bill Chapman due to employment commitments,  a troublesome knee injury prevented Woolford from playing for most of the season.

Ray Woolford died on 18 September 2018 aged 71 years
