BIO

Jim West was a key forward who kicked three goals when Norwood ended a 13-year premiership drought with a 73-point grand final win over Port Adelaide before a Football Park crowd of 44,161 in 1997.  Motivated by the absence of suspended captain Garry McIntosh, Norwood took control after half-time for an emphatic 19.12 to 7.11 victory.

At 31, Jim at last was able to celebrate a premiership near the end of an otherwise productive career that would yield 411 goals in 262 senior games with three clubs.

Jim was born on 12 April 1966.  He was a strapping 193 cm and 90 kg when he began his league career at Glenelg in 1985. Listed at No 50 in the national draft in 1988, he kicked 54 goals in 37 games for the Sydney Swans from 1990 to 1992.  He was the leading Sydney goalkicker in 1990 with 37 majors as the club struggled to score and finished second to last.
Jim returned to Glenelg in 1992 and played there until 1996, boosting his record at the Bay to 253 goals in 186 games.

He joined Norwood in 1997 and kicked 103 goals in 38 games over two seasons.  He did not spare his old club, bagging eight goals at Glenelg Oval on 2 April 1997.  He topped the Norwood and SANFL goalkicking list that season with 80 goals. As well as being an important member of the premiership team, he kicked a goal as one of ten Norwood players selected in the SANFL side which, under the captaincy of Garry McIntosh, beat the ACT 13.17 to 8.5 in Canberra.

Jim coached and played for the Encounter Bay Football Club from 1999 to 2004.
