BIO
George Graham West joined Norwood for the 1929 season. A school teacher, he had transferred to the Norwood district from Perponda, a small town in the Murray Mallee region east of Adelaide .
Norwood had kept nearly all of its strong 1928 senior list, making it difficult for any newcomer to break into the league team.
Strongly built, a good kick and clean ball handler, West impressed in the early practice matches as a ruckman/defender.
Not only did West make his senior debut in the opening round of 1929, but he was close to best on ground in his role as follower resting in defence. Norwood defeated South Adelaide : 12.14 to 7.7.
West played five league games in his first season with Norwood. In 1930 he made 13 senior appearances, and in 1931 played another two games for the league side.
George West was born in Bordertown on 21st September 1903 and served with the 3rd Battalion Volunteer Defence Corps (VDC) during World War II.
