Nick Walker joined Norwood from St. Peter's College in 1978 when he played 18 games for the under 19s and took out the best and fairest award.
 
Walker made his league debut in Round 10, 1979 and played five senior games for the season and 18 for the Reserves.
 
In 1980 he represented South Australia in youth matches against New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.
 
Studying wine-making at Roseworthy College, the mobile ruckman was in fine form early in the year. However, injury and a subsequent loss of form saw him dropped to the Reserves. He missed the first two league finals, but came back for the Preliminary Final and the Grand Final loss to Port Adelaide, replacing the injured Ugo Colasante. Walker played 22 league games in 1980.
 
In 1982 he spent the entire season in the Reserves (18 games), but appeared another 13 times in the 1983 League side.
 
Walker won the 1984 Reserves best and fairest, playing 18 games and captaining the team for most of the season.
 
Nick Walker graduated from Roseworthy Agricultural College in 1982. He followed in the footsteps of his father Norm (114 NFC games) and grandfather Hurtle (Norwood reserves) and became a third generation winemaker with O'Leary Walker Wines.
