Victor Von Einem developed his game as a ruckman/defender in the Norwood reserves and impressed in a 1920 pre-season trial against Norwood Centrals on the Kensington Oval.
He made his league debut against Port Adelaide in the opening round of the 1920 season when he played a very good game in defence and was named in the best players. Norwood won the encounter by 26 points. Although a little nervous, Von Einem showed great promise and seemed destined for a bright future.
The youngster made 14 league appearances in his first season of senior football and played well in the 1920 Grand Final loss to North Adelaide.
He proved to be a reliable defender and was regularly listed in Norwood's best players.
Von Einem played another five league games in 1921, and was named in that year's reserves premiership side that defeated West Adelaide in the Grand Final.
