BIO

John "Blewie" Van Der Meer was recruited from the Tooradin Dalmore Football Club in the West Gippsland Football League, Victoria.

A well built onballer, he played his first senior match for Norwood against Woodville at Mount Pleasant, in the first round of the 1988 Escort Cup series.

Unfortunately, Van Der Meer's first season was hampered by a serious hamstring injury. He was restricted to only six appearances for the League side, and seven for the Reserves. His League debut was against arch-rivals Port Adelaide.

Van Der Meer had a solid 1989 season, playing 17 games for the League team. He also played in the Reserves Grand Finalloss to Central Districts, and headed the 1989
Reserves goal-kicking list. He retired at the end of the season.
