BIO

Local boy Tom Tyrie played at least one game with Norwood in 1897*

We do know that he played in a Norwood feeder team, the Osmonds, in 1896 when he and Len Renfrey were named as co-winners of the trophy for best all-round play and best conducted men on the field.  Both were in the mix for Norwood selection in 1897.  Tyrie was named at the start of the season as a contender for the Norwood senior 20 but it was Renfrey who made his debut on 1 May and is mentioned in later reports.

Tom Tyrie was born in 1875, probably at Kent Town, to James and Isabella (Chisholm) Tyrie.  Tom was the second youngest of three brothers and four sisters.  A horse trainer, he died in Perth on 12 February 1934.  He is buried in Karrakatta Cemetery, WA
