Vale Bob Hammond

10 May 2020
THE Norwood Football Club is deeply saddened by the passing yesterday of former Captain and Premiership Coach, Bob Hammond.

Bob Hammond joined Norwood in 1974 as captain/coach after a long and distinguished playing career with North Adelaide spanning 234 games from 1960 to 1973.

He then coached Norwood to premierships in 1975 and 1978, the first ending a 25-year drought for the club and the second flag triumph coming in the Redlegs’ centenary year.

After his years spent at the Parade, Hammond coached both SA and the Sydney Swans before transitioning into football administration. Hammond played a key role as inaugural chairman of the Adelaide Football Club from 1991-2000 which saw him part of the Crows back to back Premierships in 1997 and 98.

Hammond’s passion for South Australian football continued as he acted as an AFL Commissioner for a decade from 2001-11, ensuring the State’s best interests were served on the national stage.

He was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2015, after previously being inducted into the South Australian Football Hall of Fame and being awarded Life Membership of both SANFL and the AFL.

Hammond was highly regarded by the Norwood fraternity and will always be remembered for his passion, commitment, and love of the Norwood Football Club.

The club would like to extend its deepest sympathies to the Hammond family.

Vale, Bob.
